Centro de Química Estrutural Bioinorganic Chemistry and Drug Development (BIOIN)
Brief Biography Andreia Valente is an Assistant Researcher at Centro de Química Estrutural at Faculdade de Ciências da Universidade de Lisboa. She obtained her Ph.D. in Chemistry at Université de Lille 1in France (2010) developing new polymerization strategies. She joined FCUL in 2010 where she did 2 postdocs in distinct areas of organometallic chemistry (non-linear optics and biomedical). In 2014, after a very competitive call, AV started a FCT Investigator position and independent research at CQE-FCUL where she develops polymer-metal conjugates for targeted therapy. She merged her know-how in organometallic chemistry with her expertise in polymers to create this innovative family of compounds. The important results led AV team to patent this work (WO 2016/087932) that has currently secured private investment. Recently AV won a contract in the frame of CEEC Individual 2017 confirming the potential of her scientific path and research. The interaction of the compounds with biological targets is a very important subject when developing anticancer agents and, in that frame, AV used her Fulbright Grant for Scholars to study the speciation of her compounds in human serum and blood at Rutgers University, USA (2015). Andreia Valente path is thus marked by a thematic mobility and competences synergy allowing her to gain an extensive and wide-ranging experience in the several aspects of chemical synthesis and compound’s biochemical and biological assessment. She has so far 54 papers in international peer review journals, 6 book chapters and several conference proceedings, and more than 57 oral presentations (24 as speaker) at national and international conferences.
